Privacy policy

Deutsche Umwelthilfe e.V. (DUH) takes the protection of personal data very seriously.

Personal data includes information such as name, address, telephone, email and additional information necessary for the appropriate use, which can be directly assigned to a specific person. The handling of personal data is regulated in particular by the provisions laid down in the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) and the Telemedia Act (TMG).

DUH ensures at all times that the relevant requirements for data protection are complied with and the legal deadlines for storage are met. We take all technical and organisational measures which are necessary in this respect.

Scope of application and supervision authority

The following information is for clarifying the nature and purpose of the collection and use of personal data by the responsible provider of this website: Deutsche Umwelthilfe e.V., Fritz-Reichle-Ring 4, 78315 Radolfzell; email: info[at]duh.de; telephone: +49 7732 999 5-0 (in the following referred to as "Internet service“). In case of a complaint, you are welcome to contact us or the regional data protection officer of the Federal State of Lower Saxony.

Collection and processing of personal data

In general, you can use the Internet service of DUH without providing personal data. When you donate, contact us or want to use our information service, you are requested to enter the data necessary for processing. For example, we ask for your name and a few other items of personal data which are relevant for the respective type of use. Obligatory data is specially marked. Your data is sent to us via an SSL-secured connection and is stored on specially protected servers in Germany.
Access is restricted to a few authorised persons who deal with the technical or commercial support of these servers or are entrusted with the internal workflows. These persons are trained under data protection law and committed to data secrecy. Under no circumstances will your personal data be passed on to third parties without your express consent. Furthermore, when entering your personal data, you will be informed about the use of your personal data and asked to give your consent to this end.

In addition, we point out that data transmission over the Internet (e.g. when communicating via email) can pose security risks. Complete protection of data against unauthorised access by third parties is impossible. Sensitive data should therefore only be transmitted over a secure connection (SSL).

Your rights with respect to personal data

By using our Internet service you grant us or the designated service providers your consent to collect, process and use your personal data to the extent described and in the manner illustrated for the specified purposes. To use certain services, or if we need additional information from you, we ask you to give us your express consent.
As far as the collection, processing and use of personal data is concerned, you have the following rights of access, rectification, blocking, deletion, cancellation and objection:

  • Upon request you will receive information from us about your personal data stored by us at any time without giving reasons and free of charge.
  • You have the right to have your personal data collected by us, corrected, blocked or deleted, or to object to the processing and use or to restrict the processing or use of your personal data at any time in accordance with the legal regulations.
  • You have the right to revoke your consent to collect, process and use your personal data at any time with effect as of a future date.
  • We will be glad to answer any further questions about the protection and processing of your personal data.

We will delete personal data which is already stored without any request if further storage is no longer required. Insofar as a deletion is not possible due to legal, statutory or contractual retention periods, the data will be blocked instead of being deleted.

Storage of data without personal reference

If you visit our Internet service the following data, which has no direct reference to your person, is automatically stored in a log file each time you visit the page:

  • the IP address of the requesting computer
  • date and time of access
  • the name and URL of the downloaded page
  • the amount of data that is sent upon transmission of the page
  • the status of access (page transmitted, page not found, etc.)
  • data on the used browser and operating system
  • the website from which the access was carried out

This data is stored to support and safeguard the operation, in particular to prevent an attack on protected data.

Integration of services and content of third parties

Third-party content, such as YouTube videos, maps from Google Maps, RSS feeds or graphics can be included from other websites as part of our Internet service. This implies that the providers of this content receive your IP address so that they are able to send the relevant content to your browser.
Although we pay particular attention to the integrity of this content, we do not have any influence on the third-party providers and their data protection regulations.

Cookies

Cookies are small information files that allow access to your device (PC, tablet, smartphone, etc.) so as to store specific information related to your device. They are used on the one hand to enhance the user friendliness of websites and usability by you (e.g. permanent storage of login files). On the other hand, they also allow us to collect statistical information about your website usage and to analyse it in order to improve our service. You can influence the use of cookies and must approve their use. Most browsers have an option that restricts or completely prevents the storage of cookies. However, we would like to point out that the use, and in particular the convenience of the Internet service use, may be restricted without cookies. We currently use Cookie Script for managing cookies.

Addthis plugins

DUH's Internet service uses a so-called "Addthis" bookmarking service.

These "Addthis" plugins allow you to set bookmarks or to jointly use interesting website content. Cookies are used when using "Addthis". The data generated in this way (such as time of use or browser language) is transmitted to AddThis LLC in the USA and processed there. More information on the data collected and processing by AddThis LLC and on AddThis LLC's  data protection policy can be found here. This website particularly contains information about the type of data processed and its intended use. We will not process the relevant data. By using the "Addthis" field, you agree to data processing by AddThis LLC in the scope described at www.addthis.com. You can object to the use of your data at any time by using an "Opt Out Cookie". More details are specified in the aforementioned website of AddThis LLC.

Google Analytics

This Internet service uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google Inc. (Google). Google Analytics uses cookies. The data generated by a cookie about your website usage (including your IP address) is transferred to a Google server and stored there. Your IP address is anonymised. Therefore, we use an additional line of code (_anonymizeIP()), that deletes the last 8 bits of the IP address and thus only allows a rough localisation.

Google will use this information to evaluate your website usage, to generate reports about the website activity for the operators of websites and to provide further services related to website and Internet usage. Google may also provide this information to third parties if it is legally mandated or if such parties are commissioned to process this information on behalf of Google. Google will not associate your IP address with other data of Google Inc.

By using this Internet service, you express your consent to the processing of data collected by Google about you in the manner described above and for the purposes previously mentioned.

We would like to point out that web-tracking software such as Google Analytics collects user data that can be used to create a usage profile.

The data collection and storage by Google Analytics can be prevented at all times with effect for the future by downloading and installing the browser plugin available under the following link: http://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
